In French, adjectives sometines go before the noun they agree with and sometimes after. Here are a few rules : - color adjectives are always after the noun.
La chaise blanche, la porte bleue, les bonbons jaunes, la panthère noire.
- long adjectives (three or more syllables) are always after the noun.
C’est une piscine dangereuse.
- adjectives when they have an object are always after the noun.
C’est une piscine dangereuse pour les enfants.
- really common and short adjectives such as gros, bon, petit are often before the noun.
Restez dans la petite piscine.
- but we say un enfant sage.C’est un bon gâteau. There are other rules but we’ll see them later. To know how to place an adjective, the best way is to hear a lot of sentences, to try to speak French and to acquire automatic reflexes by doing so. |
