INTERMEDIATE. LESSON #11.
TRANSLATION
- I’d prefer if we lived at my place. It’s nicer.
- Why not but there’s only two bedrooms.
- Would you prefer if we lived at your place ?
- No, it’s too small, too. It would be better to look for a new appartment, don’t you think ? Would you agree to move out ?
- We’d look for a three bedrooms appartment ?
- I’d prefer four bedrooms. With an additional room, I’d work more freely.
- I’d be glad to have a spare room to put my piano.

Appart is short for appartement. When you’re talking about an appartment or a house, we count the number of bedrooms. We choose to add the living-room and if it exists, the dining-room. So when you talk about a two bedrooms appartment, we talk about a three rooms appartment. Se can even say Un trois pièces. |
Etre d’accord : to agree. Déménager : to move out. Librement : freely. |
Here we have a few verbs conjugated at the conditional mood : Je préfèrerais, tu préfèrerais, ce serait, tu serais, on chercherait, je travaillerais, je serais. As in English, we use the conditional mood to express a wish or a possibility. Let’s look at the endings of these verbs :
ais with je, ais with tu, ait with il, elle or on.
Do they remind you of something ? Yes, we use the endings of the imparfait tense to conjugate a verb at the conditional mood. But the stem is the same as at the futur tense. So for most of the verbs, we just take the infinitive form then we add the imparfait endings. Infinitive form + imparfait endings
