Alouette is a traditional and very popular French Canadian song.
It’s also really popular in France and Belgium. It’s about a kid who wants to pluck a skylark and tells it what part of its body he’s going to attack. It’s a cumulative song : each time the same expression is repeated and the different parts of the body accumulate. Each verse is built on top of the previous verse. You can find the free sheet music of this song on Songs and sheet music |
Alouette (fém.) : lark, skylark. Plumer : to pluck. Tête (fém.) : head. Bec (masc.) : beak. Nez (masc.) : nose. Dos (masc.) : back. Patte (fém.) : foot. Cou (masc.) : neck. Alouette is often used in French nursery schools to learn to young children the name of the different parts of their body. Kids have to mime the song by touching or pointing the part of the body singing. |
